MELBOURNE - Oct 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel Country for today. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters between Double Island Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay, for Sunday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure along Queensland's east coast is expected to weaken during the weekend. A high over southern Australia is expected to push a cooler southerly change over Queensland's southeast during Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Fine and mostly sunny over the state except for some scattered showers about the northeast coast and the Peninsula district. Very warm to hot daytime temperatures through southern districts. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the northern tropics, tending light to moderate NE to NW in the south. A Severe Fire danger in the Channel Country until about mid-afternoon. A Very High Fire Danger over remaining southern and southeast districts. Forecast for Sunday A surface trough will move eastwards across southern Queensland and reach the Southeast Coast in the afternoon, but conditions should remain fine over the region. Very warm to hot with increasing fire danger over the southern districts ahead of this trough, though with a significantly cooler, gusty southerly change over the state's southeast during the afternoon and evening. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the remainder of the state, except for some isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula. Forecast for Monday The surface trough is expected to move northwards to the Fraser Coast area before stalling, with fresh S to SE winds and cooler conditions expected over the southeast. Generally cloudy over most of the southeast with areas of drizzle extending inland to the Great Dividing Range. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state, except for some isolated showers over the far northern reaches of the Peninsula district. Remaining warm over most of the interior. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough is expected to move southwards again across the state's southeast, allowing northerly winds to spread back into the southeast corner of the state. Some isolated showers are expected over the southeast with the trough, and the remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny. Very warm conditions will continue over the central and northwest, with temperatures near average elsewhere. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Strong surface and mid level troughs may enter Queensland's far southwest during Wednesday, before moving slowly across southern Queensland on Thursday and off the east coast during Friday. Temperatures increasing ahead of the surface trough, and the chance of some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast of the state during Wednesday and Thursday, though low humidity levels make this activity just a low chance. Much cooler conditions are likely to develop over the southwest during Thursday due to fresh and gusty SW winds in the wake of the trough. Remaining fine over most of the remainder of the state, apart from the chance of isolated showers near Torres Strait and along the far northeast tropical coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
