MELBOURNE - Oct 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An upper level trough will cross Victoria during Saturday and will result in the formation of a low pressure system off the southern new South Wales coast early on Sunday. This low will then move rapidly eastwards over the Tasman Sea later Sunday. The next high pressure system will be located just to the southwest of Victoria on Sunday then will slowly weaken on Monday. A strong cold front will cross waters south of the Bight on Tuesday, then will sweep across Victoria on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayCloudy with areas of rain extending throughout during the morning, then clearing from the west during the afternoon and evening with just isolated showers to follow in the south. Local heavy falls possible over the east. Isolated thunderstorms in the north. Snow developing over the Alpine areas during the afternoon, falling as low as 1100 metres at night. A cold day with light to moderate southeast to southwesterly winds, freshening later in the day.Sunday 7 OctoberIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, mainly during the morning and falling as snow down to 1100 metres at first. Fine over the northern plains. Local early morning frost inland, then a cool day with moderate to locally fresh south to southwest winds, strong at times about East Gippsland.Monday 8 OctoberLocal early frost, then dry and mainly sunny over the north. Partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers, mainly near the coast. A cool to mild day with light southerly winds freshening about the coast with afternoon seabreezes.Tuesday 9 OctoberLocal early frost, then dry and mainly sunny over the north. Partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers, mainly near the coast.
