Moderate to fresh and gusty SE to NE winds across the remainder of the tropics, shifting NE to NW over the south of the state. A Severe Fire Danger in the Channel Country district. A Very High Fire Danger in all remaining western districts, all southeast districts, the Central Highlands and Coalfields, and the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district. Forecast for Saturday The high in the Tasman Sea should continue to extend a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland whilst a new surface trough will approach the far southwest of the state late in the day, generating some patchy cloud. Isolated shower activity will continue about the east tropical coast in a moist onshore wind flow. Cloudy with scattered showers over the Peninsula due to an upper trough in the area, with more isolated showers also extending over the Gulf Country district. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Very warm to hot maximum temperatures will occur through southern districts in a N'ly wind flow ahead of the new surface trough. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough will most likely move eastwards across southern Queensland and reach the Southeast Coast late in the day. This trough may lead to isolated showers developing late in the day about the Southeast Coast. Very warm to hot conditions are expected about the south and southeast of the state ahead of this trough with an increased fire danger. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the remainder of the state, although isolated showers are expected about the far northeast tropics and Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Scattered showers about northern Cape York Peninsula will begin to decrease as the upper trough moves away. Fresh to strong N'ly winds along the southern coast, shifting strong and gusty S'ly in the afternoon and evening as the trough moves over the region. Forecast for Monday The surface trough is expected to move northwards onto the Capricornia coast with fresh S to SE winds and cooler conditions expected over the southeast. Generally cloudy over most of the southeast with isolated showers. A weak ridge along the north tropical coast may bring isolated showers to Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere, remaining warm over most of the interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Most of the state should remain fine through the outlook period. A surface trough over the east of the state may bring isolated showers to southeast districts and the Capricornia on Tuesday and Wednesday, before a stronger trough moves across the west of the state on Wednesday and reaches the southeast on Thursday. This stronger trough is likely to bring much warmer and more unstable conditions to the southern interior and the southeast with possible showers and thunderstorms. Much cooler conditions are likely to develop over the southwest during Thursday due to fresh and gusty SW winds in the wake of the trough. Remaining fine over most of the remainder of the state, apart from the chance of isolated showers near Torres Strait and along the far northeast tropical coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
