MELBOURNE - Oct 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will extend through remaining southern and central areas this evening and the far northeast on Friday. During Friday a high will move over Bight waters with a ridge extending to Victoria, while a low pressure system will develop over inland S.A. The low will move across southern NSW to reach the Tasman Sea early Sunday, while in the south the high will drift slowly eastwards to be located over Tasmania by Sunday night. The high will weaken with a trough approaching the west on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayA milder and gusty west to southwesterly change in the south, extending through the northwest and central inland areas this evening. Fresh to strong and warm northwesterly winds ahead of the change and isolated showers developing over the far southwest after the change. Dry and clear over the remainder.Friday 5 OctoberCloudy at first in the south with isolated showers near and south of the divide, clearing by early afternoon. Fine and mainly sunny in the north. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm in the north. Moderate southwest to southerly winds.Saturday 6 OctoberCloudy with areas of rain contracting eastwards across the State during the day. Isolated showers persisting in the south after the rain and snow extending down to 1100 metres later. Cool with light to moderate southeasterly wind, freshening later in the day.Sunday 7 OctoberRain easing to showers over East Gippsland during the morning. Isolated showers elsewhere in the south and about the east ranges, clearing by mid afternoon. Snow down to 1100 metres at first. Fine in the northwest. Cool with moderate to fresh south to southeast winds, strong at times about East Gippsland.Monday 8 OctoberMainly fine apart from the chance of a shower or two about Gippsland and southwest coasts.
