MELBOURNE - Oct 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for eastern coastal waters from Torres Strait to Bowen. A Strong Wind Warning is current for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Cullen Point. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1025 hPa] off the New South Wales coast extends a firm ridge along Queensland's east coast. The high is expected to drift slowly eastwards and weaken during today with the ridge along the east coast also weakening. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Mainly isolated showers along coast and nearby inland areas north of about St. Lawrence tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast during the morning. Isolated showers about the Peninsula also about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions through the remainder of the state, although cloud will develop during the day about the far west of the state. A Very High fire danger about the Channel Country, Central West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state, tending NW during the day over the southern interior. Fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical east coast. Forecast for Friday The high in the Tasman Sea is expected to weaken further with winds continuing to decrease about the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough will most likely move east over New South Wales, producing some patchy cloud near the southern border of Queensland. Temperatures will warm through southern districts ahead of this trough. Isolated showers will occur about the east coast north of about St. Lawrence, tending scattered during the morning about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Forecast for Saturday The high in the Tasman Sea should continue to extend a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland whilst a new trough will approach the far southwest of the state late in the day, generating some patchy cloud. Isolated shower activity will continue about the east tropical coast in a moist onshore wind flow, also extending through the Peninsula and Gulf Country districts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Very warm to hot maximum temperatures will occur through southern districts in a N'ly wind flow ahead of the new surface trough. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough will most likely move eastwards across southern Queensland and reach the far southeast coast late in the day. This trough may lead to isolated showers developing late in the day about the Gold Coast and southern border ranges. Very warm to hot conditions are expected about the south and southeast of the state ahead of this trough. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the remainder of the state, although isolated showers are expected about the far northeast tropics and Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Showers may tend to rain at times about the far north of Cape York Peninsula as an upper trough moves through the area. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Most of the state should remain fine through the outlook period. However, the trough in the southeast of the state should move northwards through southern waters on Monday with a cooler S'ly wind change generating showers about the far southeast of the state on Monday and Tuesday. Another trough may move through the far southeast on Wednesday with showers persisting about far southeast districts. Isolated showers over the far north tropics will contract north to Torres Strait during Tuesday and Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
