MELBOURNE - Oct 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for eastern coastal waters from Torres Strait to Bowen, and for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Cullen Point. The Strong Wind Warning between Bowen and St. Lawrence has been cancelled. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1025 hPa] off the New South Wales coast extends a firm ridge along Queensland's east coast. The high is expected to drift slowly eastwards and weaken during the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Cloudy over the east tropical coast and nearby inland areas with scattered squally showers. Isolated showers also about the northern interior and the far northwest. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds fresh to strong about the tropical east coast. Forecast for Thursday Mainly isolated showers along coast and nearby inland areas north of about St. Lawrence, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers also over the Gulf Country west of about Normanton. Fine and mostly sunny conditions through the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state, tending NW during the day over the southern interior. Fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical east coast. A moderate to high fire danger across the far eastern districts, and high to very high over the interior. Forecast for Friday A high in the Tasman Sea should weaken gradually as it drifts eastwards, causing winds to ease along Queensland's tropical east coast, but still pushing mainly isolated showers across the coast and into nearby inland areas. Isolated showers also over the Gulf Country district, and fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Above average daytime temperatures over the southern districts. Forecast for Saturday A weak ridge along the east coast should direct mainly isolated showers across the northeast coast and nearby inland areas. Isolated showers also about the Gulf Country, and fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Very warm daytime temperatures over the southern districts in northerly winds ahead of a weak surface trough which is expected to enter the far southwest late in the day. Forecast for Sunday A high over southeast Australia should maintain dry and fine conditions across most of Queensland. Isolated showers about the Gulf Country and northeast coast, and scattered showers and isolated storms over Cape York Peninsula. Very warm daytime temperatures across the southern districts, particularly the southeast. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Dry air should keep most of the state fine during the outlook period, though scattered showers and isolated storms are expected over Cape York Peninsula early in the week, as are some isolated showers about the southeast as a surface trough moves over the region.
