Weather Situation
A high [1025 hPa] off the New South Wales coast extends a firm ridge along
Queensland's east coast. The high is expected to drift slowly eastwards and
weaken during the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Cloudy over the east tropical coast and nearby inland areas with scattered
squally showers. Isolated showers also about the northern interior and the far
northwest. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
fresh to strong about the tropical east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Mainly isolated showers along coast and nearby inland areas north of about
St. Lawrence, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers
also over the Gulf Country west of about Normanton. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions through the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
across most of the state, tending NW during the day over the southern interior.
Fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical east coast. A moderate to high fire
danger across the far eastern districts, and high to very high over the
interior.
Forecast for Friday
A high in the Tasman Sea should weaken gradually as it drifts eastwards,
causing winds to ease along Queensland's tropical east coast, but still pushing
mainly isolated showers across the coast and into nearby inland areas. Isolated
showers also over the Gulf Country district, and fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state. Above average daytime temperatures over the southern
districts.
Forecast for Saturday
A weak ridge along the east coast should direct mainly isolated showers
across the northeast coast and nearby inland areas. Isolated showers also about
the Gulf Country, and fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.
Very warm daytime temperatures over the southern districts in northerly winds
ahead of a weak surface trough which is expected to enter the far southwest late
in the day.
Forecast for Sunday
A high over southeast Australia should maintain dry and fine conditions
across most of Queensland. Isolated showers about the Gulf Country and
northeast coast, and scattered showers and isolated storms over Cape York
Peninsula. Very warm daytime temperatures across the southern districts,
particularly the southeast.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Dry air should keep most of the state fine during the outlook period, though
scattered showers and isolated storms are expected over Cape York Peninsula
early in the week, as are some isolated showers about the southeast as a surface
trough moves over the region.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
