MELBOURNE - Oct 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will cross the Bight to reach western Victoria early Thursday afternoon, remaining southern and central areas by the evening and the far northeast early Friday. During Friday a new high will move over Bight waters with a ridge extending to Victoria, while a low pressure system will develop over inland S.A. The low will move across southern NSW to reach the Tasman Sea early Sunday, while in the south the high will drift slowly eastwards to be located over Tasmania by Sunday night. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMild to warm and clear this evening. Moderate northwest winds, fresh and gusty in the west and south.Thursday 4 OctoberA warm to very warm and mostly sunny day with fresh to strong north to northwest winds ahead of a milder southwesterly change developing over the southwest in the early afternoon and extending eastwards late in the day and evening. Isolated showers developing over the far southwest after the change but otherwise dry.Friday 5 OctoberCloudy at first in the south with isolated showers near and south of the divide, clearing during the afternoon. Fine and mainly sunny in the north. Cool to mild in the south, mild to warm in the northwest. Moderate southwest to southerly winds.Saturday 6 OctoberCloudy with areas of rain contracting eastwards across the State during the day. Isolated showers persisting in the south after the rain and snow extending down to 1100 metres later. Generally cool with light to moderate southeasterly wind, freshening later in the day.Sunday 7 OctoberScattered showers about Gippsland and the east ranges, becoming isolated and contracting to East Gippsland during the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres at first. Isolated showers elsewhere in the south, clearing during the afternoon. Fine north of the divided.
