MELBOURNE - Oct 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Lockhart River to Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Northeast Gulf Waters north of Cullen Point for Wednesday evening. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1028 hPa] over Victoria extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high is expected to move eastwards into the western Tasman Sea during Wednesday, maintaining the ridge along the east coast. A trough and an associated band of cloud is moving northwards through the Central Coast and will reach the North Tropical Coast on Wednesday. An upper level trough will develop over western Queensland on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Cloudy over the southern tropical and central coasts and adjacent inland with scattered showers. Isolated showers elsewhere over the tropics and through the central interior. Isolated showers about the southeast coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the east coast. Moderate E to SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. The high will continue to push moisture and isolated showers into the tropical interior and the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Cloud will increase through western Queensland during the afternoon though little or no rain is expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over remaining parts of the state. Maximum temperatures will warm through the southwest of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds about most of the east coast, tending moderate about the far southern coast. Moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times in the tropics during the morning. A Very High fire danger about the Peninsula, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Forecast for Thursday The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea with the ridge along the east coast weakening and strong winds contracting to north of Bowen. Isolated showers will contract to areas north of about Gladstone, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast until the afternoon. Isolated showers will also continue through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Cloud will persist through far western Queensland ahead of a trough moving east over central Australia though with little or no rainfall expected. Fine and sunny conditions will occur elsewhere. Maximum temperatures will warm through southern districts as winds tend N'ly ahead of the trough. Forecast for Friday The high in the Tasman Sea is expected to weaken further with winds continuing to decrease about the east coast of Queensland. The surface trough is likely to enter the far southwest of the state late in the day, producing some patchy cloud though with no rainfall expected. Temperatures will warm further through southern districts ahead of this trough. Isolated showers will occur about the east coast north of about Gladstone, tending scattered during the morning about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Forecast for Saturday The high in the Tasman Sea should continue to extend a ridge along the east coast of Queensland whilst the trough in the far southwest of the state will remain slow moving. SE winds about central and tropical east coast will continue to feed isolated showers onto the coast north of about St. Lawrence, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Temperatures will remain very warm about southern districts in northerly winds ahead of the trough. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Most of the state should remain fine during the outlook period. A weak ridge will persist along the Queensland coast during Sunday as the trough remains slow moving over southern Queensland. The trough may then move north through far southern coastal waters during Monday and move north to the Wide Bay area on Tuesday, generating isolated showers about the coast and ranges with its passage. Isolated showers will continue in the tropics, particularly along the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist over the interior. Very warm to hot temperatures will continue over southern districts in N'ly winds ahead of the cooler S'ly change following the trough passage on Monday and Tuesday.
