Weather Situation
A high [1035 hPa] lies near western Victoria and will move slowly east over
southeastern Australia today, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland
coast. A trough and an associated band of cloud will move north from the
Capricornia into remaining central districts and the southern tropics today,
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Cloudy over the southern tropical and central coasts and adjacent inland with
scattered showers and drizzle areas. Isolated showers elsewhere over the tropics
and through the central interior. Cloud decreasing over southeast districts with
morning drizzle clearing and only isolated showers continuing near the coast in
the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny in the west with just some cloud developing
during the afternoon and evening. A cool day over much of the state,
particularly through central districts. Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the
east coast. Moderate E to SE winds elsewhere, fresh at times in the morning over
western districts. A Very High fire danger about the North West, Channel
Country, Central West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move eastwards into the western Tasman Sea maintaining a firm
ridge along central and tropical coasts with fresh to strong SE winds and
isolated showers, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. The high
will continue to push moisture and isolated showers into the tropical interior
and the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Cloud will increase through western
Queensland during the afternoon due to the presence of an upper level trough
though with little or no rain expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will
occur over remaining parts of the state. Maximum temperatures will warm through
the southwest of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea with the
ridge along the east coast weakening and strong winds contracting to north of
Bowen. Isolated showers will contract to areas north of about Gladstone, tending
scattered about the North Tropical Coast until the afternoon. Isolated showers
will also continue through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria
coast. Cloud will persist through far western Queensland ahead of a trough
moving east over central Australia though with little or no rainfall expected.
Fine and sunny conditions will occur elsewhere. Maximum temperatures will warm
through southern districts as winds tend N'ly ahead of the trough.
Forecast for Friday
The high in the Tasman Sea is expected to weaken further with winds
continuing to decrease about the east coast of Queensland. The surface trough is
likely to enter the far southwest of the state late in the day, producing some
patchy cloud though with no rainfall expected. Temperatures will warm further
through southern districts ahead of this trough. Isolated showers will occur
about the east coast north of about Gladstone, tending scattered during the
morning about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected
through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Most of the state should remain fine during the outlook period. A weak ridge
will persist along the Queensland coast during the weekend as the trough remains
slow moving over southern Queensland. The trough may then move north through far
southern coastal waters during Monday, generating isolated showers about the
coast and ranges with its passage. Isolated showers will continue in the
tropics, particularly along the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions
should persist over the interior. Very warm to hot temperatures will continue
over southern districts in N'ly winds ahead of the cooler S'ly change following
the trough passage on Monday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
