southern tropical waters by late Tuesday. A high [1034 hPa] over the Great
Australian Bight is moving slowly eastwards and will extend a firm ridge along
the east coast of Queensland during Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine and clear over western Queensland and the southern interior. Partly
cloudy over eastern districts with isolated showers with mostly cloudy
conditions and more widespread showers about the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast.
Isolated showers over the Peninsula and southern tropical interior. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, tending moderate to fresh and gusty over the west and
northwest. Fresh to strong SE winds along coastal parts of the southeast and
Capricornia district.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered along the tropical
and central coasts. Isolated showers are also likely to spread through the
tropical interior. Early morning drizzle areas about the Central Highlands and
southeast, tending to isolated showers during the day. Early morning drizzle
about the Darling Downs and Granite Belt should clear to a fine and mostly sunny
afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny through western districts and the southern
interior. Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the east coast. Moderate E to SE
winds elsewhere, fresh at times in the morning over western districts. A Very
High fire danger about the North West, Channel Country, Central West and
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move eastwards into the western Tasman Sea maintaining a firm
ridge along central and tropical coasts with fresh to strong SE winds and
isolated showers, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. The high
will continue to push moisture and isolated showers into the tropical interior.
Isolated showers about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions will occur over remaining parts of the state. Maximum temperatures
will warm through the southwest of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea with the
ridge along the east coast weakening and strong winds contracting to north of
Cardwell by the afternoon. Isolated showers will contract to areas north of
about Gladstone but remain scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated
showers are also expected through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast. Fine conditions will occur through the interior though cloud
will increase in the far west ahead of a trough moving eastwards into
southeastern Australia.
Forecast for Friday
The high in the Tasman Sea is expected to continue weakening with winds
continuing to ease about the east coast of Queensland. The surface trough is
likely to enter the far south and southwest of the state during the day.
Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Rockhampton, tending
scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected
through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly
sunny conditions are expected about the remainder of the state although cloud
will persist about the far west and southern interior of the state.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A weak ridge will persist along the Queensland coast whilst the trough is
likely to remain slow moving over southern Queensland over the weekend. The
trough may then move north through far southeast coastal waters during Monday.
Most of the state should remain fine through the outlook period with only
isolated showers about the tropics. Warm to very warm temperatures will continue
over southern Queensland ahead of the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
