MELBOURNE - Oct 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from St. Lawrence to Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for remaining coastal waters between Lockhart River and Point Danger for Tuesday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough is moving north through Capricornia waters and is expected to reach southern tropical waters by late Tuesday. A high [1034 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight is moving slowly eastwards and will extend a firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland during Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Fine and clear over western Queensland and the southern interior. Partly cloudy over eastern districts with isolated showers with mostly cloudy conditions and more widespread showers about the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast. Isolated showers over the Peninsula and southern tropical interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending moderate to fresh and gusty over the west and northwest. Fresh to strong SE winds along coastal parts of the southeast and Capricornia district. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered along the tropical and central coasts. Isolated showers are also likely to spread through the tropical interior. Early morning drizzle areas about the Central Highlands and southeast, tending to isolated showers during the day. Early morning drizzle about the Darling Downs and Granite Belt should clear to a fine and mostly sunny afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny through western districts and the southern interior. Fresh to strong S to SE winds about the east coast. Moderate E to SE winds elsewhere, fresh at times in the morning over western districts. A Very High fire danger about the North West, Channel Country, Central West and Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Forecast for Wednesday The high will move eastwards into the western Tasman Sea maintaining a firm ridge along central and tropical coasts with fresh to strong SE winds and isolated showers, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. The high will continue to push moisture and isolated showers into the tropical interior. Isolated showers about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over remaining parts of the state. Maximum temperatures will warm through the southwest of the state. Forecast for Thursday The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea with the ridge along the east coast weakening and strong winds contracting to north of Cardwell by the afternoon. Isolated showers will contract to areas north of about Gladstone but remain scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine conditions will occur through the interior though cloud will increase in the far west ahead of a trough moving eastwards into southeastern Australia. Forecast for Friday The high in the Tasman Sea is expected to continue weakening with winds continuing to ease about the east coast of Queensland. The surface trough is likely to enter the far south and southwest of the state during the day. Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Rockhampton, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers are also expected through the Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected about the remainder of the state although cloud will persist about the far west and southern interior of the state. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A weak ridge will persist along the Queensland coast whilst the trough is likely to remain slow moving over southern Queensland over the weekend. The trough may then move north through far southeast coastal waters during Monday. Most of the state should remain fine through the outlook period with only isolated showers about the tropics. Warm to very warm temperatures will continue over southern Queensland ahead of the trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
