Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for parts of the Channel
Country, North West and Maranoa and Warrego districts for Monday.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from St Lawrence to Double
Island Point including Hervey Bay, for Monday.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the north tropical
Queensland coast. A trough lies near the Fraser coast and is expected to deepen
during Monday. Another high over the Great Australian Bight extends a
strengthening ridge across western and southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine and mostly clear in the west and southern interior. Isolated showers and
possible thunderstorms over the northeast tropics, mostly inland. Cloudy with
patchy rain and isolated showers over central and southeast districts. Possible
isolated thunderstorms about the Capricornia. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
over the eastern tropics, shifting SW to SE elsewhere and tending moderate to
fresh at times over the west and northwest.
Forecast for Monday
Fine and mostly sunny over western Queensland. Mostly cloudy through eastern
and central districts with showers and drizzle areas, more widespread about the
Capricornia, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast. Possible isolated thunderstorms about
the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts. Isolated showers through the Peninsula and
southern tropical interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending moderate
to fresh and gusty over the west and northwest.  Fresh to strong SE winds along
coastal parts of the southeast and Capricornia district. A Severe fire danger
southwest of a line from Mount Isa to Cunnamulla. A Very High fire danger in
remaining parts of western districts, the Northern Goldfields and Upper
Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields and the Darling Downs and Granite
Belt districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to move across southeast Australia and extend a firm
ridge along most of the east Queensland coast with fresh to strong SE winds and
isolated showers, tending scattered along the tropical and Capricornia coast.
Isolated showers are likely to spread through the tropical interior into
northwestern Queensland. Conditions will remain fine elsewhere over the
interior, apart from some morning drizzle near the Central Highlands and through
the southeast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move east into the western Tasman Sea maintaining a firm ridge
along central and tropical coasts with fresh to strong SE winds and isolated
showers, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. The high will
continue to push moisture into the tropical interior and into northwest parts of
the state with isolated showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will
occur over remaining parts of the state. Maximum temperatures will warm through
the southern interior due to N'ly winds ahead of trough entering central
Australia.
Forecast for Thursday
The high pressure system is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman
Sea, relaxing the ridge and SE winds along the east Queensland coast. Isolated
showers will contract to areas north of Gladstone and remain scattered about the
north tropical coast. Isolated showers are also expected through the Peninsula
and Gulf Country. Fine conditions will occur through the interior though cloud
will increase in the far west ahead of the trough moving east into southeastern
Australia. Warm temperatures will persist through southern Queensland ahead of
the trough.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A weak ridge will persist along the Queensland coast with decreasing isolated
showers in the tropics. The trough is expected to move east over New South Wales
and the southern Queensland border on Friday and will most likely remain slow
moving near the southern Queensland coast over the weekend. Little or no
rainfall is expected with the passage of this trough. Warm temperatures will
continue over southern Queensland ahead of the trough.

Monday.
