Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the North West District
for Sunday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east
Queensland coast. A deep trough extends across southwest Queensland and is
expected to move across western and southeastern Queensland this evening and
across the central interior and southern tropical interior on Sunday. Another
high will move into the Great Australian Bight on Sunday and extend a ridge
across western and southern Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Mostly fine in the tropics with only isolated showers and thunderstorms in
the Gulf Country, western Peninsula and southern tropical interior. Becoming
fine in the far southwest. Cloudy with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms
over remaining parts of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
northern tropics. Moderate to fresh NW to NE winds over central and southeast
districts ahead of a SW'ly change extending from the west this evening. Moderate
to fresh and gusty SW to SE winds across western Queensland and the southern
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine and mostly sunny in the southwest and southern interior. Mostly fine in
the tropics with some isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms,
mostly inland. Cloudy with patchy rain, showers and isolated thunderstorms over
remaining parts of the state, easing to isolated showers from the southwest
during the day. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, shifting NW to SW over central
and southeast parts during the morning. Temperatures generally near or below
average during the day. A Severe fire danger in the North West. A Very High fire
danger in the Channel Country, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego districts and
the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
The trough and any associated patchy rain and thunderstorms will contract off
the central and Wide Bay coasts during the morning. A strong high over the
eastern Great Australian Bight should push a strengthening ridge with an onshore
flow and showers affecting Queensland's eastern districts, mainly isolated. The
high should also maintain a flow of dry air over Queensland's interior,
resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to move across southeast Australia and extend a firm
ridge along most of the east Queensland coast with fresh to strong SE winds and
isolated showers, tending scattered along coastal parts of the southern tropics.
Isolated showers are likely to spread into the tropical interior. Remaining fine
in the west and southern interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will move east into the western Coral Sea maintaining a firm ridge
along central and tropical coasts with fresh to strong SE winds and isolated
showers, tending scattered along the North Tropical Coast. The high will
continue to push moisture into the tropical interior and into northwest parts of
the state with isolated showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will
occur over remaining parts of the state. Maximum temperatures will warm through
the southern interior due to N'ly winds ahead of trough entering central
Australia.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high pressure system is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman
Sea relaxing the ridge and SE winds along the east Queensland coast, with
isolated showers slowly contracting north and tending scattered about the north
tropical coast. Isolated showers may occur about the Gulf Country. Conditions
should remain fine and partly cloudy over the interior. The trough over New
South Wales will most likely move east over our southern border though with
little or no rainfall expected. Warm temperatures will occur through southern
Queensland ahead of the trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
