Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
between Maroochydore and Point Danger including Moreton Bay, for Saturday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east
Queensland coast. A surface trough over southwest Queensland is expected to move
across western and southern Queensland during Saturday. An upper level trough is
expected to move across Queensland during the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Cloudy with patchy rain, showers and gusty thunderstorms over the west and
southern interior. Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast. Fine and
mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics, shifting
moderate to fresh and gusty NE to NW elsewhere. A strong and gusty SW wind
change moving over the southwest.
Forecast for Saturday
Cloudy with patchy rain, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the west and
southern interior, extending into the tropical and central interior and
southeast districts during the day; while clearing from the southwest late in
the day or night. Isolated morning fogs along the tropical coast. A warm to very
warm day in eastern districts, but much cooler in the west and southern
interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the northern tropics, shifting
moderate to fresh NW to NE over central and southeast districts and tending
strong at times along the far southern coast. Moderate to fresh and gusty SW to
SE winds across western Queensland and the southern interior. A Very High Fire
Danger in the Central West and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper level trough is expected to move eastwards across the state. As a
result, the cloud band is expected to contract into eastern districts during the
day, producing areas of patchy rain, showers and isolated thunderstorms. Cloudy
with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the northwest and central
interior clearing during the morning. Fine and mostly sunny over the far west of
the state as a high moves across the Great Australian Bight and extends a ridge
across western Queensland and along the southern Queensland coast. Temperatures
generally near or below average during the day.
Forecast for Monday
A strong high over the eastern Great Australian Bight should push a
strengthening ridge and onshore flow and showers across Queensland's far eastern
districts, mainly isolated. However, a weak upper level trough moving over the
eastern Queensland may bring scattered showers to the Capricornia and southern
coastal areas. The high should also maintain a flow of dry air over Queensland's
interior, resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to move across southeast Australia and extend a firm
ridge along most of the east Queensland coast with fresh to strong SE winds and
generally scattered showers, as a stronger upper trough moves over the southeast
of the state. Isolated showers are likely to spread into the eastern and
tropical interior. Remaining fine in the west and southern interior with
temperatures remaining near or below average.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high pressure system is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman
Sea and maintain a ridge and SE winds along the east Queensland coast with
isolated showers slowly contracting north and tending scattered about the north
tropical coast. Isolated showers may occur about the Gulf Country. Remaining
fine and mostly sunny over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
