MELBOURNE - Sep 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is weakening. A low pressure trough over South Australia will enter western Victoria late Thursday then move slowly eastwards across the State on Friday. A stronger cold front will follow Friday night, leaving a cold and unstable west to southwesterly airflow over Victoria on Saturday. A high pressure system will develop over the Bight later Saturday and ridge over inland Victoria on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayWarm to very warm and partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing, mostly in the north and northeast. Northerly winds strengthening over most districts and reaching gale force over Alpine regions, ahead of a late southerly change extending along the western and central coasts.Friday 28 SeptemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms contracting eastwards with scattered showers to follow. Snow developing on the ranges at night, extending down to 800 metres in the southwest. Mild with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds strengthening over the eastern ranges then tending colder west to northwesterly in the west.Saturday 29 SeptemberScattered showers with local hail and thunder, mainly over southern and mountain districts but more widespread about the southwest and central coasts. Snowfalls down to 600 metres. A cold day with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds, strong along the coastal fringe.Sunday 30 SeptemberMorning frost patches inland. Isolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to coastal areas by the evening.
