Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system is located over the Tasman Sea and is weakening. A low pressure trough over S.A. will enter western Victoria late Thursday then move slowly eastwards across the State on Friday. A stronger cold front will follow Friday night, leaving a cold and unstable west to southwesterly airflow over Victoria on Saturday. A high pressure system will develop over the Bight later Saturday and ridge over inland Victoria on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMostly dry across the State apart from a band of isolated light thundery showers about the northern border, contracting to the northeast this evening. Chance of a shower over Gippsland. Mild evening with fresh and gusty northerly winds, strong about the ranges.Thursday 27 SeptemberWarm to very warm and partly cloudy with isolated showers developing, mostly in the north and northeast. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms mainly over the north. Northerly winds strengthening in the north and east and reaching gale force over Alpine regions, ahead of a late west to southwesterly change extending along the coast.Friday 28 SeptemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms contracting eastwards with scattered showers to follow. Snow developing on the ranges at night, extending down to 800 metres in the southwest. Mild with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds strengthening over the eastern ranges then tending colder west to northwesterly in the west.Saturday 29 SeptemberScattered showers with local hail and thunder, mainly over southern and mountain districts but more widespread about the southwest and central coasts. Snowfalls down to 600 metres. A cold day with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds, strong along the coastal fringe.Sunday 30 SeptemberMorning frost patches inland. Isolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to coastal areas by the evening. Cool with moderate to fresh southwest winds, easing during the day.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
