MELBOURNE - Sep 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system off the NSW coast will move slowly east across the Tasman Sea today. A low pressure trough over western South Australia will move slowly eastwards and will cross Victoria late Thursday and during Friday. A cold front will then follow the trough Friday night leaving a cold and unstable west to southwesterly airflow over Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayEarly morning fog and frost in the east at first. A mostly sunny day ahead of a band of isolated light showers extending from the western border in the late morning, reaching the far east at night. Warm northerly winds, freshening over western and central districts. Milder afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast.Thursday 27 SeptemberWarm to very warm and partly cloudy with isolated showers developing, mostly in the afternoon and evening. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms mainly over the north. Northerly winds strengthening, especially in elevated and central areas ahead of a late southwesterly change extending along the coast.Friday 28 SeptemberAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms contracting eastwards with scattered showers to follow. Mild with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds strengthening over the eastern ranges then tending west to northwesterly.Saturday 29 SeptemberScattered showers mainly over southern and mountain districts with local hail and thunder. Snowfalls down to 1000 metres.
