MELBOURNE - Sep 25/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough extends from the Capricornia district into the central interior, and then up into the Gulf Country. A high over Victoria extends a weak ridge into southern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Fine and clear over most of the state except for some isolated showers and thunderstorms through the central interior and parts of the Capricornia and Wide Bay regions. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most areas, fresh at times in the far north and far southeast. Forecast for Wednesday Fine and mostly sunny over much of the state, though some isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, mainly during the afternoon over the southern interior, the Central Highlands and the southern tropical coast. Some light showers and areas of mainly morning drizzle are also possible about the southeast tropics and the South Burnett. Very warm to hot temperatures in the west of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state, fresh at times about the northeast and Capricornia coasts. High to very high fire danger across most interior districts. Forecast for Thursday A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the Queensland coast, and the associated onshore flow is expected to push showers across the tropical east coast. Some isolated showers and storms are possible from the north tropical coast through the central interior. Cloud is expected to increase over the Channel Country ahead of an upper level trough, and some local thunder is possible, but little or no rain. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Very warm to hot temperatures in the west, with increasing fire dangers. Forecast for Friday A weak ridge of high pressure is expected to remain along the east coast, and should push some isolated showers across the northeast coast. The upper level trough should gradually approach Queensland's far southwestern border late in the day, increasing the cloud further over the Channel Country with some local thunder but little or no rain. Fine over the remainder of the state and very warm to hot across the southern interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper level trough should move eastwards across the state, extending a cloud band with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the interior districts and the Gulf Country. Mainly fine over the far eastern districts, except for some isolated showers about the southeast district and over Cape York Peninsula. Very warm over the eastern districts, and a new high over the Great Australian Bight should push cooler southerly winds into the state's west. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The upper level trough is expected to extend showers and thunderstorms across the eastern districts late in the weekend before contracting offshore, and temperatures are expected to ease beneath it. A high near Victoria is expected to push showers across the east coast and into the eastern interior from Monday, and further inland into the central interior on Tuesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
