Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough is expected to contract off the southern coast in the early hours, decreasing instability over southeastern Queensland. The surface trough will also contract off the southern coast and shift north into central waters during the day. A high moving east over southeastern Australia will extend a fresh to strong S'ly wind flow through southern Queensland waters in the wake of the trough. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected through central districts and the northern Wide Bay. Mostly fine conditions will occur along the southern coast with only isolated showers. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist elsewhere under the influence of a ridge. Cooler temperatures will extend through far southern parts of the state in the S'ly wind flow. Forecast for Wednesday The high will move east into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Fresh SE winds and isolated showers will extend north along the east coast to the southern tropics. Unstable conditions will persist through central districts and extend towards the Maranoa, with isolated showers and afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected. High cloud will enter the far west of the state late in the day though with no rain. Very warm to hot temperatures will occur once again in the west of the state. Forecast for Thursday The high will move towards New Zealand, but the ridge will be maintained along the Queensland coast and extend showers from the Central Coast to the far north. Instability will remain through central and southern tropical areas of the state, so showers and possible thunderstorms are expected and extend inland towards the Central West district. Cloud increasing in the far west as the next upper trough intensifies and moves into the Great Australian Bight, with possible thunderstorms but producing little if any rain. Very warm to hot temperatures in the west, with fire dangers increasing again. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high will continue moving eastwards, relaxing the ridge along the east coast of Queensland during the outlook period and decreasing the isolated showers. The upper trough will move east over Queensland on Friday and Saturday, passing off the southern coast on Sunday. A band of shower and thunderstorm activity is expected with the passage of this upper trough along with a surface trough. Hot temperatures will again develop over the interior of the state in the N'ly wind flow ahead of the trough, with increasing fire dangers. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
