MELBOURNE - Sep 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will extend through eastern Victoria this morning to reach the Tasman Sea where a low pressure system will develop. A weak high will move across western Victoria later on Friday and over the remainder of the State early Saturday as the low moves away to the east. A cold front will approach western Victoria Saturday night, then move rapidly across the State on Sunday as an associated low pressure system moves south of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will move from the Bight to northwest Victoria late Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayFine over the northern plains. Isolated showers over southern and mountain districts, tending scattered over Gippsland and the east ranges this afternoon.. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern ranges and East Gippsland. Snow on the Alpine peaks. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong at times about the coast.Saturday 22 SeptemberWarm in the north, mild in the south. Isolated showers in the east, clearing during the morning then a fine and mostly sunny day. Scattered showers near the western border around midnight. Light winds tending moderate northerly in the west. Afternoon coastal seabreezes.Sunday 23 SeptemberScattered showers on and south of the ranges falling as snow above 1000 metres. Local hail and thunder near the southwest coast. Isolated showers over the north. Mild in the east at first, but colder, moderate to fresh west to southwest winds extending throughout.Monday 24 SeptemberLocal early morning frost inland. Isolated showers on and south of the ranges falling as snow above 1000 metres. Fine over the northern plains.
