Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for parts of the
Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high near New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the tropical east coast of
Queensland. A trough over far southwestern Queensland is expected to remain slow
moving.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Morning fogs in the east. Fine and mostly sunny otherwise, with a very warm
to hot day in the west and south. Moderate SE to NE winds, shifting moderate to
fresh and gusty NE to NW'ly over the interior. Very High to Severe Fire Danger
in the Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego districts, with Very High Fire
Danger in the Northwest and Central West districts.
Forecast for Friday
The next upper level trough is expected to strengthen as it moves rapidly
across southern Queensland districts, whilst a surface trough is expected to
extend from the northwest into the southeast interior. A cloud band with
isolated showers and thunderstorms will extend across the southern interior and
southeast districts, although little rainfall is expected in most areas.
Isolated light showers developing through Torres Strait. Very warm to hot
temperatures over the southern half of the state and the northwest. Fresh and
gusty winds either side of the surface trough are expected to increase fire
dangers over western and southern Queensland, most likely into the very high to
severe range in the southwest and across the southern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper trough will move offshore to be replaced by a more stable upper
pattern, and this should lead to fine conditions returning throughout most of
Queensland. Some cloud and isolated afternoon showers may develop about the
central highlands and Wide Bay and Burnett in the vicinity of the surface
trough. A few light showers are also likely through Torres Strait. High cloud is
also likely to develop over the Channel Country late in the day but no rainfall
is expected. Very warm to hot maximum temperatures across most of the state,
except the northern tropics, with a high to very high fire danger expected in
many areas.
Forecast for Sunday
Another upper trough is expected to move over southeast Australia and extend
more middle and high level cloud over the southwest and southern interior but
with little if any rain. The surface trough is expected to lie from the
northwest to southeast interior, and should trigger at least isolated showers
over the central interior and southeast Queensland. A few light showers are
likely through Torres Strait. Remaining fine over the northern tropics.
Remaining very warm to hot across most of the state, except the northern
tropics,
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The situation remains complex early in the week, typical for Spring. A high
near New Zealand is expected to extend a weak ridge along the north tropical
coast and maintain fine conditions across the northern tropics. A surface trough
is expected to remain slow moving and lie from northwest Queensland to the
southeast region. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely over the
southeast and parts of central Queensland associated with this trough,
particularly on Tuesday as an upper level trough is forecast to move across
southern Queensland. Remaining fine in the west and most of the southern
interior. Temperatures are expected to remain well above average across most
areas.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
