MELBOURNE - Sep 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge westwards across Tasmania. A low pressure trough is moving across Victoria and will contract eastwards tonight, clearing the State early Wednesday. Another trough will move from South Australia into northwest Victoria on Thursday, extending eastwards across the State into the Tasman Sea on Friday, where a low pressure system will develop. A weak high will move across western Victoria later on Friday and a cold front will enter western Victoria later on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayWidespread showers and local thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, contracting eastwards. Isolated showers in the west. Showers falling as snow on the Alpine peaks. Light to moderate southwest to southerly winds extending eastwards.Wednesday 19 SeptemberScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over Gippsland. Isolated showers possible over most remaining districts falling as snow on the Alpine peaks. Generally mild with light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds.Thursday 20 SeptemberIsolated showers. A mild day with light to moderate easterly winds shifting moderate westerly in the far west later.Friday 21 SeptemberIsolated showers in the west and north, becoming scattered in the east. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the northeast. Fine in the northwest. Cool to mild with moderate southwesterly winds.Saturday 22 SeptemberWarm in the north, mild in the south. Isolated showers in the east, clearing in the afternoon. Isolated showers developing later in the southwest.
