MELBOURNE - Sep 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge westwards across Tasmania to another high south of the Bight. A low pressure trough extends southwards from New South Wales across Victoria and will contract eastwards today, clearing the State early Wednesday. Another trough will move from South Australia into northwest Victoria on Thursday, extending eastwards across the State into the Tasman Sea on Friday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayLocal morning fog. Widespread showers and local thunderstorms extending over central and eastern districts, but clearing over the far northwest early this morning. Isolated showers elsewhere. Showers falling as snow on the Alpine peaks. Cool to mild. Generally light winds at first this morning, but moderate southwest to southerly winds gradually developing over western Victoria and along the coast.Wednesday 19 SeptemberScattered showers over Gippsland. Isolated showers possible over most remaining districts. Generally mild with light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds.Thursday 20 SeptemberIsolated showers. A mild day with light to moderate easterly winds shifting moderate westerly in the far west later.Friday 21 SeptemberIsolated showers in the west and north, becoming scattered in the southeast. Fine in the northwest.
