Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A broad area of high pressure over southern Australia extends a weak ridge
over eastern Queensland. A surface trough lies beneath an upper level trough
over Queensland's interior, and both systems are gradually strengthening.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the central interior during the
morning, becoming scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms during the
afternoon and spreading to the southern interior. Isolated showers in the
southeast with possible thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Fine and
sunny over the western districts, and isolated showers through the northeast of
the state. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the eastern half of the state,
light to moderate S to SW winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level and surface troughs will move eastwards during the day, and
weaken at the same time. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are
expected over southeast districts. The rest of the state should be fine and
mostly sunny except for some isolated showers about the remainder of the east
coast, clearing during the day.
Forecast for Wednesday
A weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland will provide fine and mostly
sunny conditions across a lot the state. A weak upper trough over the
Queensland's southwest may produce some isolated showers and storms over the
southern interior, yet little or no rain is expected. Fire dangers increasing in
the state's far west as very warm to hot northerly winds freshen during the
day.
Forecast for Thursday
A weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland will maintain fine and mainly
dry conditions across the state. Cloudy conditions over the southeast interior,
mostly in the afternoon. Warm to hot conditions across the southern and western
areas of the state.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
A series of upper level troughs are expected to pass over southern Queensland
during the outlook period, but the humidity levels will remain low over the
southern districts, and so very little, if any rain is expected over the region
during the outlook period. Fine over the remainder of the state, though some
isolated, light showers may return to the tropical east coast late in the
weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
