Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1028 hPa] over Victoria is expected to drift eastwards into the
Tasman Sea the end of the weekend. A weak surface trough lies over Queensland's
interior.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine and mostly sunny across the state except for some isolated showers about
the east tropical coast. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the east coast.
Light to moderate NE to SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to move off the New South Wales coast while a new high
enters the Great Australian Bight. An upper level trough is expected to
strengthen over Queensland's interior. The upper trough is likely to increase
instability over Queensland's central interior, resulting in some shower and
possible storm activity in the region, though any falls will be isolated and
limited by the still low humidity levels. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state, except for some isolated showers about the central coast
and the state's northeast. Some early frost is possible on the Granite Belt.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the east coast. A
cooler, moderate S to SW change over the western districts during the day.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough is expected to remain over the southern interior, while
the upper trough strengthens above it and instability increases. Scattered
showers and isolated storms are therefore expected through the southern interior
and central districts, and are also possible about the state's southeast. Fine
and dry over the western districts, and isolated showers about the northeast
coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level and surface troughs are expected to weaken as they move over
Queensland's southeast quarter, though they may still be strong enough to
produce at least some isolated showers and storms over the region. The rest of
the state should be fine and mostly sunny except for some isolated showers about
the remainder of the east coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
A weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland will direct very warm to hot
northerly winds over the state's interior. Most of the state is expected to be
fine and mostly sunny, though a new, weak upper trough over the Queensland's
southwest is expected to cause cloud increase, though little or no rain is
expected. Just the chance of some isolated showers about the northeast coast as
well. Fire dangers increasing in the state's far west as the very warm to hot
northerly winds freshen during the day.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Some mainly weak upper level troughs are likely to pass across southern
Queensland during the outlook period. The humidity levels will remain low over
the southern interior, and so very little, if any rain is expected with the
troughs over the region on Thursday, however there is a greater chance for at
least isolated showers and storms over the southeast quarter later in the week
as the upper trough strengthens over the region. Mostly fine over the remainder
of the state, though with some isolated showers over the eastern tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
