Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
The Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Double
Island Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay has been cancelled.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1024 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the tropical
east coast. A surface trough has moved off the southern Queensland coast. A high
[1027 hPa] moving east over the Great Australian Bight extends a firm ridge
across southern and western Queensland in the wake of the trough with dry S to
SE winds.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine and mostly sunny over much of the state. Isolated showers over northern
Cape York Peninsula. Isolated light morning showers along the north tropical
coast. Isolated afternoon showers about the Central Coast and northern
Capricornia. Light to moderate mostly S to SE winds, fresh and gusty at times
over southern and western Queensland. A Very High Fire Danger in the
Capricornia, North Tropical Coast and most of the interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move east over southeastern Australia, maintaining a ridge
along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough will develop over the interior
of Queensland. Isolated showers will occur over the east tropical and central
coasts, extending to adjacent inland parts in the afternoon in the increasingly
moist wind flow to the east of the surface trough. Dry and mostly sunny
conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with a cool morning over
most of the interior. Some early frost is likely over the southeast interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea while a new
high will enter the Great Australian Bight. An upper level trough will most
likely approach southwestern Queensland, resulting in a deepening of the surface
trough over the interior. Instability will therefore increase, with afternoon
and evening showers and thunderstorms developing over the central and southern
interior near the surface trough. Isolated showers will occur along the east
coast in a moist onshore wind flow and will develop through the eastern tropical
interior in the afternoon in the moist NE'ly wind flow ahead of the surface
trough. Some early light frost is possible on the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Monday
The upper level trough will move a little further east over the southern
Queensland border while the surface trough will remain slow moving and deepen
further over the interior of the state. Instability will increase further
through the southern interior and central districts with showers and
thunderstorms expected over areas east of about Winton to Thargomindah, as well
as some morning and night patchy rain areas. Cloud will increase through
southeast districts, though shower and thunderstorm activity should be mostly
confined to the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Wide Bay and Burnett
districts. Isolated showers will occur along the east tropical coast and
adjacent inland in a moist onshore wind flow. Dry and mostly sunny conditions
will persist in the far west.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The upper level trough will most likely move east over southeastern
Queensland on Tuesday and contract into the Coral Sea on Wednesday. The surface
trough is expected to persist over southeastern Queensland on Tuesday before
weakening on Wednesday as a new surface trough approaches the southwestern
border. Showers and thunderstorms are expected over central districts and the
southeastern corner of the state on Tuesday, clearing off the coast with the
upper trough at night. Cloud may increase over southwest and southern Queensland
during Wednesday and Thursday due to the next surface and upper trough system,
with patchy light rain or showers. Mostly fine conditions will occur over
remaining parts of the state with only isolated showers near the northeast
tropical coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
