Warning Summary at issue time

between Torres Strait and Cooktown.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for Northeast Gulf Waters north of 11 degrees
South.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high off the east coast of New South Wales extends a ridge into Queensland.
This high cell is expected to move eastwards during the next few days. A new
trough will move across Queensland from the west on Thursday, clearing the
southeast coast early on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Dry over most of the state, isolated showers about exposed points of the east
coast, increasing towards the northeast tropical coast near Cairns. Isolated
showers further north and developing inland in the afternoon over northern Cape
York Peninsula. Some early morning fog patches over eastern districts. A little
early frost in the Granite Belt. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics
increasing to fresh to strong in the northeast tropics. Light to moderate SE to
NE winds over the interior. Light to moderate E to NE winds towards the
southeast coast. A high to very high fire danger over the northwest of the
state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high over the Tasman Sea moves a little east but the ridge extension
persists into Queensland. A new cold front and pre frontal trough enters S.A and
Victoria. Much the same weather across Queensland as on Tuesday. Isolated
showers about the exposed east coast, increasing towards the northeast tropical
coast. Some early morning fog patches over inland eastern districts. Strong SE
winds continuing over the northeast tropics. Day time temperatures rising over
30C in the far west as winds shift northwesterly.
Forecast for Thursday
The new trough enters the southwest of the state and moves east, reaching the
northwest region and the Darling Downs late in the day. Increasing NW winds
ahead of the change with higher temperatures will increase the fire rating to
severe over the southern interior, leading to a fire weather warning. Elsewhere
SE winds have finally eased over the northeast tropics. Remaining dry over the
interior with maxima over 30C ahead of the change. Becoming cooler in the west
with SW winds. Showers persisting about the east coast. Strong NW winds also
developing about the SE coast.
Forecast for Friday
The trough has already cleared the southeast coast early and now moves north
through the Wide Bay region and reaches the Capricorn district later in the day.
Generally cooler over the interior with frost returning to the Granite Belt.
Strong SW winds early about the southeast coast. Showers clearing about the east
coast but persisting in the northern tropics. Dry over the remainder of the
state.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The next high will move across South Australia into New South Wales and clear
the coast by Sunday. A ridge will develop over Queensland from this high and E
to SE'ly flow will be maintained across Queensland. This will maintain coastal
showers. Fine across the remainder of the state during the weekend with early
frosts about parts of the southeast interior. However an upper level trough is
likely to move over the state on Monday with a surface trough expected to
develop over the Queensland interior. There is the chance of isolated showers
and thunderstorms associated with this trough over the central and southeast
interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
