MELBOURNE - Sep 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time

between Torres Strait and Cooktown.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for Northeast Gulf Waters north of 11 degrees
South.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] over southeast Australia is expected to drift eastwards
during the next few days. The high extends a firm ridge over the far northern
Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the north tropical coast and eastern Cape York
Peninsula. Some high cloud over the remainder of the tropics. Light to moderate
SW to SE winds over most of the state, with fresh and gusty SE winds about the
northeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast north from Fraser Island. Cloudy over
the northern tropics but with no rain. Fine elsewhere, though cloudy at times
about central and southeast coastal districts. A cool morning in the west and
south with early frost about the far southeast Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
Fresh to strong SE winds about the northeast coast. Mostly light to moderate SE
to NE winds elsewhere. A Very High Fire Danger in the Peninsula and Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders forecast districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should move into the Tasman Sea, maintaining fine and mostly sunny
conditions across much of Queensland except for isolated showers about the coast
north from Fraser Island. Fresh to strong SE winds are expected to continue
about the far northeast coast. A cool morning with some early frost near the
Granite Belt. Daytime temperatures becoming warmer over the southern interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea, but
should still be able to maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of
Queensland. However, isolated showers are still expected about the most of the
tropical coast. Daytime temperatures are expected to become very warm over the
west and southern interior due to northerly winds ahead of a trough moving
across South Australia.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to move to the east of New Zealand, with the ridge
weakening along the north tropical coast and winds decreasing a little. Onshore
winds are still expected to produce isolated showers about most of the tropical
coast. The trough is expected to move into the far southwest of the state during
the morning, and then extend across the southern interior of the state during
the day. Very warm to hot daytime temperatures are expected ahead of the trough
with an increase in fire danger over the southwest and southern interior. Some
cloud is likely to develop near the trough as it reaches the southeast interior
late in the day, but no rain is expected at this stage. Strong northerly winds
developing along the far southern coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The surface trough is expected to move off the southeast coast on Friday and
with SW to SE winds in its wake should allow temperatures to become cooler over
southern Queensland. A new ridge is expected to develop along most of the
Queensland coast during the weekend as another high moves across southeast
Australia, with isolated coastal showers. An upper trough moving over southern
Queensland may extend these showers into the adjacent inland on Sunday,
particularly in the southeast. Remaining fine across the rest of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
