MELBOURNE - Sep 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cooktown. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Great Australian Bight is expected to drift eastwards across southern Australia over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Fine and sunny over most of the state except for some isolated, mainly light showers about the northeast coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over most of the state, with fresh and gusty winds developing about the northeast coast during the afternoon. High to very high fire danger over the western districts and the Peninsula district, and a moderate to high fire danger over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Monday A ridge should lie across southeast Australia, keeping most of Queensland fine and sunny except for some isolated showers about the Gulf Country and Northeast coasts, and some cloudy periods about the remainder of the state's far north and southeast. Patchy early morning frost about the Granite Belt. Fresh to strong SE winds about the northeast coast. Forecast for Tuesday The high should lie near the New South Wales coast, maintaining fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of Queensland except for some isolated showers about the northeast and central coasts. A little early frost over the Granite Belt and daytime temperatures increasing over the southern interior. Forecast for Wednesday The high should move into the Tasman Sea, but should still be able to maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of Queensland except for some isolated showers about the northeast and central coasts. Daytime temperatures increasing further over the southern interior in northerly winds. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday Very warm daytime temperatures across southern Queensland on Thursday ahead of a surface trough. The surface trough is expected to move off the southeast coast by Friday, allowing temperatures to moderate over southern Queensland. The trough is not expected to produce any rain. So most of the state will remain fine, dry and sunny, except for some isolated showers about the northeast and central coasts, and the chance of some isolated showers about the southeast district early in the weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
