Weather Situation
A surface trough is moving eastwards across the state, and is expected to
pass off the southeast coast late Friday evening, and off the central coast by
late Saturday morning. A high over the Great Australian Bight will direct
cooler, drier air across Queensland behind the trough.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine and clear across most of the state, except for some isolated showers
about the central and northeast coasts. Isolated showers about the Wide Bay
district. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the eastern districts,
though with a cooler, drier southerly change about the southeast districts.
Mainly moderate SW to SE winds over the state's interior.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine, dry and sunny over most of the state, except for some isolated, mainly
light showers over northern reaches of Cape York Peninsula. Mainly moderate SW
to SE winds over the eastern districts, fresh and gusty during the day over the
western districts with a severe fire danger in the northwest of the state. High
to very high fire danger over the remainder of the state. Areas of morning
frost about the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should lie over southeast Australia, maintaining dry air and fine
and sunny conditions across most of Queensland, except for some isolated, mainly
light showers over the Peninsula district and the northeast coast. Areas of
morning frost about the southern and southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to lie near the New South Wales coast, maintaining dry
and settled conditions across Queensland's interior. Mainly fine across the far
eastern districts, though an onshore wind flow may produce some isolated, mainly
light showers. The chance of some morning frost about the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should lie over the Tasman Sea, directing an onshore flow and some
isolated, mainly light showers over the far eastern districts, though conditions
will be fine most of the time. Queensland's interior should remain fine and
dry. The chance of some morning frost about the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A new, weak high may form late in the week over southern Australia,
maintaining the dry and fine conditions across Queensland's interior. Mainly
fine about the far eastern districts except for some isolated showers.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
