MELBOURNE - Sep 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation Another cold front and associated trough approaching from the west will move across the State overnight and during Friday. A high pressure system will move over South Australia and New South Wales over the weekend and early next week and will extend a ridge across inland Victoria. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayA band of rain in the southwest reaching central districts tonight. Isolated showers over remaining parts, scattered over the eastern ranges. Snow above 1600 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the southwest tonight. Fresh to strong northwesterly winds, increasing to gale force in the southwest and over the ranges.Friday 7 SeptemberShowers in southern and mountain areas but isolated showers over the northern plains. Isolated thunder and hail contracting east and snow on the ranges extending down to 1000 metres. Strong to gale force and gusty west to northwest winds shifting squally west to southwesterly during the day.Saturday 8 SeptemberIsolated showers, mostly on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast and eastern ranges at first. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres, rising to 1600 metres by the evening. Moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong to gale force about the Gippsland coast at first.Sunday 9 SeptemberIsolated showers in the south contracting to the coast during the morning before clearing during the afternoon. Fine over the north. Cool to mild with a light to moderate west to southwesterly wind, fresh at first along the coast.Monday 10 SeptemberFine apart from local drizzle near the coast.
