MELBOURNE - Sep 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system crossing southern Tasmania early this morning will slide away to the southeast today. A cold front and associated trough approaching from the west will move across the State overnight and during Friday. A high pressure system will move over South Australia and New South Wales over the weekend and will extend a ridge across inland Victoria. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers over most districts although more widespread in the southwest and about the eastern ranges and falling as snow above 1600 metres. A band of rain entering the southwest this afternoon, reaching central districts tonight. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the far southwest tonight. Remaining dry in the far southeast. Cool to mild with fresh to strong northwesterly winds.Friday 7 SeptemberShowers in southern and mountain areas but isolated showers over the northern plains. Isolated thunderstorms contracting east and snow on the ranges extending down to 1200 metres. Strong and gusty west to northwest winds shifting west to southwesterly during the day.Saturday 8 SeptemberIsolated showers, mostly on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast at first but easing and contracting to coastal areas and the east ranges by the evening. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres, rising to 1600 metres by the evening. Moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong about the Gippsland coast at first.Sunday 9 SeptemberIsolated showers in the south contracting to the coast during the morning before clearing during the afternoon. Fine over the north.
