For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high [1025 hPa] over the northern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The ridge is expected to weaken during Thursday as the high moves eastwards across the Tasman Sea. A trough over southwest Queensland will move slowly eastwards across the southern interior during Thursday whilst weakening. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated light showers about the northeast tropics. Isolated light showers about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Fresh and gusty N to NW winds over the southwest of the state will lead to areas of raised dust. Moderate to fresh NW to NE winds elsewhere over the interior and southern coast. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds about the east tropical and central coasts. A Severe fire danger over the Channel Country district and a Very High fire danger over the Maranoa and Warrego district and through the Central West and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Forecast for Thursday Fine and mostly sunny across the state with only patchy cloud about the interior in the state due to the surface trough. Isolated light showers will continue about the east coast, mainly north of about St. Lawrence. Warm to hot N to NW winds and elevated fire dangers will extend east into the Maranoa and southeast districts. A Very High fire danger about the Maranoa and Warrego district and the Darling Downs and Granite Belt district. N'ly winds are also expected to strengthen over the far southern coast during the afternoon and evening. Forecast for Friday A second surface trough will most likely move rapidly east over the interior of the state. Warm to hot daytime temperatures will again extend through much of southern Queensland and the central interior in the N to NW wind flow ahead of this trough. There is some possibility of isolated gusty shower or thunderstorm activity developing in the afternoon over the southern and southeast interior, particularly about the southern border, extending towards the Southeast Coast in the evening. However, little or no rainfall is expected at this stage. Isolated shower activity will occur about the east tropical coast north of about Ingham in the continuing moist onshore wind flow. Elevated fire dangers are expected to persist across most of the southern interior of the state. Forecast for Saturday The trough will most likely contract east off the southeast Queensland coast in the early hours of the morning. The associated patchy cloud band and possible isolated shower or thunderstorm activity will clear southeast districts during the very early morning, with little rainfall expected at this stage. A large high over the Great Australian Bight will extend a ridge and a cooler, dry airmass though western and southern Queensland in the wake of the trough. Cloudy over the northern Peninsula district due to the passage of a weak trough though only patchy rain or isolated showers are expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected over the remainder of the tropics and central Queensland. Strong winds are likely in the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to move east to be over New South Wales by late Sunday. The high will extend dry S to SE winds across most of the state. Fresh to strong SE winds about northeast tropical waters should lead to isolated showers about the east coast north of about Cardwell. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state although a weak trough is likely to bring isolated showers to exposed parts of the southeast coast. Strong winds are likely in the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria during the morning. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The high will move slowly east over the Tasman Sea during the outlook period, extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers will develop about the east coast as the wind flow tends more onshore. A surface trough will most likely develop over the interior of the state on Monday, with possible isolated showers developing over the eastern interior in the moist NE'ly wind flow to the east of the trough. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist in the west under the influence of a dry airmass. Isolated early morning frosts will most likely return to the southeastern interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
