MELBOURNE - Sep 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located over the north Tasman Sea. A cold front will cross central and eastern Victoria during the day. A stronger cold front will then reach the far southwest this evening and then move across southern Victoria early Thursday as an associated deep low pressure system moves southeast of Tasmania. A further front will move across the State on Friday then a high will move over the Bight and extend a ridge across inland Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain extending through central and eastern areas during the day but mainly about the eastern ranges and the southwest. Isolated thunderstorms. Mild to warm with strong and squally northerly winds, reaching gale force at times, shifting milder northwesterly during the day.Thursday 6 SeptemberIsolated showers over most districts although more widespread in the southwest and about the east ranges and falling as snow above 1500 metres. Remaining dry in the far northwest and in the far east. Cool to mild with strong and squally northwesterly winds, reaching gale force at first, turning west to southwesterly during the day before easing from the west at night.Friday 7 SeptemberScattered showers in the south and southwest and about the east ranges, extending throughout during the day although isolated in the far northwest and east. Showers tending to rain areas about the east ranges. Isolated thunderstorms contracting east and snow on the ranges extending down to 1100 metres. Fresh and gusty west to northwest winds shifting west to southwesterly during the day, strong at times in the south.Saturday 8 SeptemberIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast at first but easing and contracting to coastal areas and the east ranges by the evening. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres, rising to 1700 metres by the evening.
