MELBOURNE - Sep 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system located over the NSW north coast extends a ridge southwards to Victoria. On Tuesday a cold front will cross the Bight to approach western Victoria in the evening before crossing the State on Wednesday. A stronger cold front will then move across Victoria early Thursday as an associated deep low pressure system moves across Tasmania. A further front will move across the State on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayPatchy rain and the chance of a thunderstorms developing over the southwest. Light to moderate north to northwesterly winds and and local afternoon coastal seabreezes.Tuesday 4 SeptemberFine apart from the a shower or two clearing before dawn over Gippsland and the chance of isolated showers developing in the far southwest in the evening. Mostly sunny at first but cloud increasing in the west during the afternoon. A mild to warm day with moderate to fresh northerly winds strengthening from the west later and locally reaching gale force at night.Wednesday 5 SeptemberAreas of rain, mainly about the ranges and over the southwest and extending through central and eastern areas during the day. The chance of a thunderstorm in the southwest. Mild to warm with strong and squally northerly winds, reaching gale force at times, shifting milder northwesterly.Thursday 6 SeptemberScattered showers, more widespread in the southwest and about the northeast ranges and falling as snow above 1500 metres. Cool with strong and squally northwesterly winds turning west to southwesterly during the day before easing from the west at night.Friday 7 SeptemberRain contracting through the east and clearing. Scattered showers elsewhere, mainly on and south of the ranges and easing during the afternoon. Snow above 1400 metres, lowering to 1100 metres later.
