Weather Situation
A high over southern New South Wales is expected to move northeast today and
clear the east coast by Tuesday. This high extends a ridge into eastern
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast, dry over the remainder
of the state. Chilly in the south this morning with early frost through the
southern and southeast interior. Strong SE winds about the northeast tropical
coast, moderate to fresh SE winds generally over the tropics. Light to moderate
SE to NE winds over the remainder of the state. A moderate to high fire danger
over eastern districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
High cell over northeast New South Wales moves off the coast but maintains a
ridge over eastern Queensland. Continuing dry over most of the state apart from
isolated showers about the NE tropical coast, extending south to about St
Lawrence. Early frost again over the southern and southeast interior.
Temperatures rising over 30C in the far west as N'ly winds develop.
Forecast for Wednesday
A new trough enters the Channel Country with no precipitation. Hot and dry
conditions ahead of the change with freshening NW winds. This will increase the
fire danger leading to a fire weather warning west of Charleville into the
Channel Country. Day temperatures will exceed 35C in the far west. Dry again
over most of the state with the usual isolated showers about the northeast
tropical coast extending south to about S Lawrence. Early frost contracting to
the Granite Belt as temperatures rise generally.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough move east and reaches the western Darling Downs and the northwest
of the state late in the day. Hot and dry conditions ahead of the change with NW
winds and elevated fire dangers but no warning conditions. Temperatures over 35C
in the northwest of the state. Becoming cooler in the southwest following the
change with S to SW winds. Strong NW winds developing about the southeast coast.
Isolated showers continuing about the northeast tropics north of about St
Lawrence, dry over the remainder of Queensland.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The surface trough stalls over the interior on Friday as a second trough
enters the southwest of the state. The trough also stalls near the southeast
coast with hot NW winds and temperatures reaching 30C. Eventually the secondary
trough moves through and merges with the previous trough. The combination passes
through the southeast coast overnight Friday or into Saturday. Cooler
temperatures now dominate southern districts. The SW'ly wind change will drop
minimum temperatures greatly over the southern interior by Sunday with frosts
returning to the Darling Downs. There will be no increase in precipitation for
the state during this period, in fact shower activity will contract further
north into the tropics after the trough passage.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
