Torres Strait and Cooktown.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1023 hPa] over New South Wales is expected to move slowly eastwards
during the next couple of days. The high extends a ridge along the east
Queensland coast and dry SW to SE winds across most of the state.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Dry and mostly clear
across the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
interior and about the east coast. Fresh and gusty SE winds about
the northeast tropical coast. Mostly light to moderate E to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers along the tropical coast, mainly in the north. Dry and
mostly sunny across the remainder of the state. A cool to cold morning over most
areas with early frosts in the southeast and southern interior. Fresh to strong
SE winds about the northeast tropical coast. Mostly light to moderate E to SE
winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to move eastwards off the New South Wales and into the
far northern Tasman Sea with the ridge persisting over eastern Queensland.
Isolated showers are expected to continue about the tropical coast in the
onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state and it
should become very warm over
western and southern districts as winds turn N to NE'ly. Early frost about the
southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea with the
ridge persisting over eastern Queensland. Isolated showers are expected about
the most of the east coast and ranges north from about Fraser Island due to the
onshore airflow. There is also the chance of some morning drizzle over the
adjacent inland areas in central districts. Remaining fine and mostly sunny over
the remainder of the state. A trough is expected to enter the Channel Country
late on Wednesday but is not expected to lead to any precipitation. However,
very warm to hot conditions are expected over western and southern districts due
to fresh to strong and gusty NE to NW winds ahead of this trough with increasing
fire danger. Early frost is expected to be restricted to near the Granite Belt
region.
Forecast for Thursday
The trough is expected to move across the west and southern interior of the
state, preceded by very warm to hot NE to NW winds and an elevated fire danger.
These winds are expected to reach strong along the far southern coast during the
afternoon and evening. Some cloud may accompany the trough but no significant
precipitation is expected at this stage. Isolated showers are likely to persist
about the east coast north from Fraser Island in the onshore airflow.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The surface trough is likely to reach the southeast during Friday, preceded
by very warm and gusty N to NW winds and an elevated fire danger. No significant
precipitation is expected. The trough is then expected to move northeast and lie
over the far eastern tropics on Saturday before weakening on Sunday. Another
ridge is expected to extend across the state in the wake of the trough with dry
and cooler SW to SE winds. Isolated showers are likely to persist about the
northeast tropical coast during the outlook period, but also develop along the
exposed southern Queensland coast during Sunday due to a S'ly airflow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
