Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
between Torres Strait and Cooktown.

Weather Situation
A high over Victoria will move over New South Wales by Monday and off the New
South Wales coast by Tuesday. A new trough will enters the far west on Wednesday
and reach the southeast coast on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Scattered showers on the northeast tropical coast, dry over the remainder of
the state. Chilly over southern districts this morning with early frost over the
southern and southeast interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
interior and about the east coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds through the
tropics, strong about the northeast tropical coast. A moderate to high fire
danger about eastern districts.
Forecast for Monday
The high moves up into New South Wales with a ridge over eastern Queensland.
Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast and extending south to about
to Mackay. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state. Chilly again over
southern districts in the morning with early frost over the southern and
southeast interior.  Strong southeast winds persisting about the northeast
tropical coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high moves off the New South Wales coast but the ridge persists over
Queensland. Isolated showers are expected to continue about the northeast
tropical coast, south to about Mackay. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder
of the state. Rising temperatures in the west as winds shift more northerly.
Early frost now contracting to the southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
A new trough enters the Channel Country with no precipitation. Hot, dry
conditions ahead of the change with freshening NW winds will lead to increasing
fire danger over the southern interior. Remaining dry over the interior and
isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Rising temperatures
generally will contract the early frost to the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The surface trough is expected to move eastwards and is likely to reach the
southeast during Friday, preceded by very warm to hot NE to NW winds and an
elevated fire danger. The trough is then expected to lie over the eastern
tropics on Saturday. Another ridge is expected to extend across the state in the
wake of the trough with dry and cooler SW to SE winds. Otherwise, isolated
showers are likely to persist about the northeast tropical and central coasts
during the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
