Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
between Torres Strait and Cooktown for Sunday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1026 hPa] over southeast Australia will move slowly eastwards during
the next couple of days. The high extends a ridge along east Queensland coast
and dry SW to SE winds across most of the state. A weak surface trough lies over
the northeast tropics.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Dry and clear across most of the state. Partly cloudy over the eastern
tropics with isolated showers about the tropical coast and adjacent inland.
Moderate SE winds over the tropics, fresh at times about the coast. Light to
moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
Scattered showers about the north tropical coast. Dry and mostly sunny across
the remainder of the state. A cool morning over southern districts with early
frost over the southeast and southern interior. Fresh to strong SE winds about
the northeast tropical coast. Mostly light to moderate E to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to remain over New South Wales with the ridge persisting
along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers along most of the tropical
coast as the airstream turns more easterly. Strong SE winds are likely to
persist along the northeast tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state. A cool morning over southern districts with early frost
about the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should move eastwards off the New South Wales and into the far
northern Tasman Sea with the ridge persisting over eastern Queensland. Isolated
showers are expected to continue about the tropical coast in the onshore flow.
Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state and it should become very
warm over western and southern districts as winds turn N to NE'ly. Early frost
about the southeast interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea with the
ridge persisting over eastern Queensland. Isolated showers are expected to
continue about the tropical coast in the onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny
over the remainder of the state. A trough is expected to enter the Channel
Country late on Wednesday but is not expected to lead to any precipitation.
However, very warm to hot conditions are expected over western and southern
districts due to fresh and gusty NE to NW winds ahead of this trough with
increasing fire danger. Early frost is expected to be restricted to near the
Granite Belt region.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The surface trough is expected to move eastwards and is likely to reach the
southeast during Friday, preceded by very warm to hot NE to NW winds and an
elevated fire danger. The trough is then expected to lie over the eastern
tropics on Saturday. There is the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms
with and ahead of the trough as it moves east across southern and central areas
of the state, but no significant rainfall is expected. Another ridge is expected
to extend across the state in the wake of the trough with dry and cooler SW to
SE winds. Otherwise, isolated showers are likely to persist about the northeast
tropical and central coasts during the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
