Weather Situation
A surface trough cleared off the southeast coast of Queensland during Friday
and will move northwards through the Central Coast during today. A high [1027
hPa] over South Australia will move slowly eastwards into southern New South
Wales by the end of today and will extend dry SW to SE winds across most of the
state.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers over the central and tropical coasts north of about Mackay
and extending north to Cairns. Fine and sunny over the remainder of the state. A
cooler morning in the south of the state with early frost over the southern and
southeast interior. Moderate SE winds over the tropics, fresh at times about the
coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should reach the east coast of New South Wales late on Sunday with a
ridge persisting along the east coast of Queensland, leading to fresh to strong
SE winds about the northeast tropical coast. The surface trough should move
northwards to the northeast tropical coast, leading to isolated showers in that
area. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state with light to
moderate E to SE winds. A cool morning over southern districts in the morning
with early frost over the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to remain over New South Wales with the ridge persisting
along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers are now likely to extend
further southwards with isolated showers about the east coast north of about
Mackay as the airstream turns more easterly. Strong SE winds are likely to
persist about the northeast tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state. A cool morning over southern districts with early frost
about the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should move eastwards off the New South Wales and into the southern
Coral Sea with the ridge persisting over eastern Queensland. Isolated showers
are now likely about the east coast north of about St Lawrence in the onshore
flow. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state and it should become
very warm over southern and western districts as winds turn N to NE'ly. Early
frost should now become restricted to the Darling Downs and Granite Belt
district.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The next surface trough should enter the Channel Country late on Wednesday
but is not expected to lead to any precipitation. This trough should eventually
move eastwards and may reach the Maranoa and Warrego district late on Friday
with some isolated showers and thunderstorms possible over the southern
interior. Hot and gusty NW winds ahead of the change will lead to increasing
fire dangers over southern districts again. Isolated showers will persist about
the northeast tropical and central coasts through the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
