Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough is moving through sunshine coast at present, a high is
entering South Australia with ridge extending into western Queensland. Weakening
high over Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge into northern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers about the Wide Bay and Capricorn districts, isolated showers
and thunderstorms over the southern tropical interior this evening. Dry over the
remainder of the state. Becoming cooler over the west and south with light to
moderate SE to SW winds. Light to moderate NE to SE winds about the east coast.
Moderate to fresh SE winds through the tropics. A high fire danger in the west,
moderate to high over the southeast region.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over South Australia is expected to move across New South Wales with
a ridge developing over eastern Queensland. The costal trough now reaches the
southern tropical coast. Isolated showers over the southern tropical coast north
of about Mackay and extending north to Cairns. Dry over the remainder of the
state. A chilly morning in the south with early frost over the southern and
southeast interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics, light to
moderate SE winds over the interior and about the east coast. A moderate to high
fire danger over eastern districts, a high fire danger over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will reach the east coast of New South Wales with the ridge
persisting into Queensland. Freshening SE winds to strong wind force about the
northeast tropical coast. The old coastal trough now reaching the northeast
tropical coast with isolated showers. Remaining fine over the remainder of the
state. Chilly again over southern districts in the morning with early frost over
the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to reach the east coast of New South Wales with little
change in the overall weather for Queensland. Isolated showers now extending
south from the northeast tropics along the Queensland coast as the airstream
turns more easterly. Strong SE winds to persist about the NE tropical coast. Dry
over the interior, early frost contracting in the south as temperatures
generally rise.
Forecast for Tuesday
The southern high moves off the New South Wales east coast but the ridge
persists over eastern Queensland. With moisture increasing about the east coast
shower activity will now extend further south to about St Lawrence. No change in
the weather for the rest of the state.  Hot conditions developing in the far
west as max temperatures      rise over 30C. Early frost now contracting to the
Darling Downs district.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The next western trough enters the Channel Country late on Wednesday with no
weather. This trough eventually moves east and reaches the southeast region on
Friday but again with no weather. Hot gusty NW winds ahead of the change will
increase fire dangers over southern districts again. Isolated showers remaining
about the northeast tropical and central coasts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
