MELBOURNE - Aug 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough is expected to move northwards across the state's eastern districts today, before contracting offshore overnight. A high pressure system over southern Australia is directing dry air over most of the state behind the surface trough. Forecast for the rest of Friday Some isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible during the morning about the southeast, contracting northwards into the Wide Bay and southeast tropics during the day. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the eastern districts, with drier moderate to locally fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere. A Very High Fire Danger in the Channel Country and Northwest forecast districts. Forecast for Saturday The high is expected to move towards New South Wales, resulting in dry, fine and sunny conditions over most of Queensland, except for the central coast and the northeast where an onshore flow should produce some isolated showers. Areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern interior. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds across most of the state, fresh and gusty over the northwest. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to remain over New South Wales, maintaining fine and dry conditions over most of Queensland, except for some isolated showers about the northeast. Areas of morning frost about the southern and southeast interior. Forecast for Monday The high is expected to remain over New South Wales, keeping most of Queensland fine and settled, with the exception of the central and northeast coast, where just some isolated showers are expected. Areas of frost over the southern and southeast interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Remaining fine and mostly sunny over most of the state except for some isolated showers about the tropical east coast as the ridge pushes a somewhat moist air flow ashore. Warm to hot, gusty northerly winds will develop over western and southern inland Queensland ahead a surface trough during Wednesday, causing fire danger to increase. The early frost areas should contract into the Granite Belt region by Wednesday morning. The surface trough is expected to remain over the southwest on Thursday while weakening, but it is not expected to produce rain as it passes over Queensland. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
