MELBOURNE - Aug 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Noosa Heads and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the tropical east Queensland coast. A surface trough over the southern Queensland interior is expected to move eastwards, and move off the southern Queensland during Friday morning. The trough is expected to lie over the far eastern tropics to the Wide Bay region during Friday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southern interior, most southeast districts and the central interior. High cloud over the southwest. Fine and mostly clear over the remainder of the state. Fresh to strong NW to NE winds along the southeast Queensland coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the remainder of the state east of the trough, shifting moderate S to SW in the west and northwest. Forecast for Friday Isolated showers and possible isolated thunderstorms early morning over the central interior and southeast, contracting into remaining central districts and the Wide Bay and Burnett during the day. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the eastern tropics, shifting drier moderate to locally fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere. A Very High Fire Danger in the Channel Country and Northwest forecast districts. Forecast for Saturday The high is expected to move across New South Wales while the surface trough will weaken and lie over the southeast tropics where some isolated showers are expected, mainly in the afternoon. Fine and dry conditions will continue over the remainder of the state, with a cool morning in the southeast and southern interior and some early frosts. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds across most of the state, fresh and gusty over the northwest with strong winds expected over the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria in the morning. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to reach the east coast of New South Wales. Isolated showers are expected about the north tropical coast in a moist onshore flow, and possibly about Fraser Island. It will continue fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state, though cool over the southern and southeast interior in the morning with some early frosts. Freshening SE winds along the northeast tropical coast as the coastal ridge intensifies. Forecast for Monday The high is expected to remain near the eastern New South Wales coast while extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Only isolated showers are expected along the north tropical Queensland coast due to the fresh onshore SE airflow. Fine and dry conditions are expected to continue elsewhere with some early frosts over the southern and southeast interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Isolated showers will continue about the tropical coast as the ridge and moist SE air flow is maintained. Gusty northerly winds will develop over western and southern inland Queensland ahead a surface trough that is expected to enter the Channel Country early Wednesday. This will lead to increasing temperatures over much of the interior with increasing fire danger. The early frost areas will contract into the southeast Darling Downs and Granite Belt district by Wednesday morning. The surface trough is expected to remain over the southwest on Thursday while weakening. At this stage, no significant precipitation is expected with this trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
