MELBOURNE - Aug 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Noosa Heads and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the tropical east
Queensland coast. A surface trough over the southern Queensland interior is
expected to move eastwards, and move off the southern Queensland during Friday
morning. The trough is expected to lie over the far eastern tropics to the Wide
Bay region during Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southern interior, most
southeast districts and the central interior. High cloud over the southwest.
Fine and mostly clear over the remainder of the state. Fresh to strong NW to NE
winds along the southeast Queensland coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
over the remainder of the state east of the trough, shifting moderate S to SW in
the west and northwest.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers and possible isolated thunderstorms early morning over the
central interior and southeast, contracting into remaining central districts and
the Wide Bay and Burnett during the day. Fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the eastern
tropics, shifting drier moderate to locally fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere. A
Very High Fire Danger in the Channel Country and Northwest forecast districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high is expected to move across New South Wales while the surface trough
will weaken and lie over the southeast tropics where some isolated showers are
expected, mainly in the afternoon. Fine and dry conditions will continue over
the remainder of the state, with a cool morning in the southeast and southern
interior and some early frosts. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds across most of
the state, fresh and gusty over the northwest with strong winds expected over
the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria in the morning.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to reach the east coast of New South Wales. Isolated
showers are expected about the north tropical coast in a moist onshore flow, and
possibly about Fraser Island. It will continue fine and mostly sunny over the
remainder of the state, though cool over the southern and southeast interior in
the morning with some early frosts. Freshening SE winds along the northeast
tropical coast as the coastal ridge intensifies.
Forecast for Monday
The high is expected to remain near the eastern New South Wales coast while
extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. Only isolated showers are
expected along the north tropical Queensland coast due to the fresh onshore SE
airflow. Fine and dry conditions are expected to continue elsewhere with some
early frosts over the southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Isolated showers will continue about the tropical coast as the ridge and
moist SE air flow is maintained. Gusty northerly winds will develop over western
and southern inland Queensland ahead a surface trough that is expected to enter
the Channel Country early Wednesday. This will lead to increasing temperatures
over much of the interior with increasing fire danger. The early frost areas
will contract into the southeast Darling Downs and Granite Belt district by
Wednesday morning. The surface trough is expected to remain over the southwest
on Thursday while weakening. At this stage, no significant precipitation is
expected with this trough.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
