MELBOURNE - Aug 30/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front has moved across the State bringing a cold and gusty southwest airflow, while a low pressure system to the south of Tasmania continues to deepen and is move slowly eastwards. The low will move away across the south Tasman Sea during Friday as a high pressure system builds over South Australia and extends a ridge across northwestern Victoria. The high will then move slowly eastwards across inland New South Wales over the weekend and on Monday. Meanwhile a weak front will brush the southwest coast later Sunday before slipping southwards. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers with local hail and thunder on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast and falling as snow down to 700 metres. Isolated showers over northern inland areas early evening. Cold with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds, strong at times along the coast.Friday 31 AugustRain periods in the south, contracting northeastwards and easing to showers by the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere reaching most northern parts in the afternoon although remaining dry in the far northwest. Rain and showers falling as snow on the ranges above 800 metres, contracting to the east ranges by the evening. Local hail and thunder at first in the east. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at first about the Gippsland coast but easing from the west during the day.Saturday 1 SeptemberAreas of morning frosts and fog patches inland. Mostly cloudy south of the divide with isolated showers, clearing during the morning or early afternoon. A mostly sunny day in the north. Cool with generally light winds.Sunday 2 SeptemberMorning frost patches in the north and east then a fine and mainly sunny day throughout apart from the chance of an afternoon shower about the southwest coast. Mild with light to moderate northerly winds, freshening in the southwest.Monday 3 SeptemberMorning frost and fog patches in the east then a mostly sunny day throughout.
