Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
south of Noosa Heads including Moreton Bay for Thursday afternoon and evening.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast.
The high and associated ridge and will weaken over the next couple of days. A
surface trough in southwestern Queensland this afternoon will move east towards
the southeast.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop near the trough south of
Barcaldine during the afternoon and evening. It will remain fine and mostly
sunny over the remainder of the state. Strong NW winds will develop about the
southeast coast during the afternoon. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
remainder of the state east of the trough. Dry and cooler in the west with
moderate S to SW winds. A very high fire danger over the Maranoa and Warrego.
Forecast for Friday
A new high will enter South Australia while the surface trough moves up the
Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts after passing through the southeast coast early.
Early patchy rain with local thunder in the southeast with afternoon isolated
showers are possible in the southeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will
develop near the trough. Fine and sunny conditions will continue over the
remainder of the state, with cooler temperatures in the south and west.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move across New South while the trough on the central
Queensland coast moves north generating isolated afternoon showers over the
southern tropics. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue over the
remainder of the state after a cool morning in the southeast and southern
interior with some early frost.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will reach the east coast of New South Wales. Isolated showers are
expected about the north tropical coast in a moist onshore flow, and possibly
about Fraser Island. It will continue fine and mostly sunny over the remainder
of the state, though cool over the southern interior in the morning with a
little early frost. Strong SE winds are possible in north tropical waters.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Isolated showers will continue about the north tropical coast as the moist
SE'ly air flow maintains. Northerly winds will develop in western Queensland
ahead a surface trough that enters the Channel Country early Wednesday. This
will lead to increasing temperatures over much of Queensland's interior with
freshening northerly winds and increasing fire dangers. It will however remain
fine and sunny throughout most of the state. The early frost areas will contract
into the Darling Downs district by Wednesday morning.

Thursday.
