MELBOURNE - Aug 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will reach eastern Victoria this morning. A stronger front will then follow across southern Victoria today with an associated deep low passing south of Tasmania by the evening. The low will move away across the south Tasman Sea during Friday as a high pressure system builds over South Australia and extends a ridge across northwestern Victoria. The high will then move slowly eastwards across southern New South Wales over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers with local hail and thunder on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast and falling as snow down to 700 metres. Isolated showers extending to northern inland areas during the afternoon. Cold with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending throughout, strengthening along the coast.Friday 31 AugustScattered showers in southern and mountain areas and isolated showers, reaching most northern parts although dry in the far northwest. Local hail and thunder at first in the east. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at first about the Gippsland coast but easing from the west during the day.Saturday 1 SeptemberAreas of morning frosts inland. Isolated showers or drizzle in the south, clearing during the morning. A mostly sunny day in the north but patchy cloud in the south. Cool with generally light winds.Sunday 2 SeptemberMorning frost patches in the north and east then a fine and mainly sunny day throughout.
