MELBOURNE - Aug 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Fire Weather Warning has been cancelled for parts of the Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego districts for today. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cape Melville. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters south of Noosa Heads including Moreton Bay for Thursday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high and associated ridge and will weaken over the next couple of days. A surface trough will enter western Queensland this afternoon and reach the southeast on overnight Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers about the southern tropical coast, dry over the remainder of the state. Very warm to hot over the interior this afternoon with fresh and gusty NW winds. Becoming cooler in the far west with SW winds. Light to moderate NE winds about the east coast tending moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics. A moderate to high fire danger over the southeast region and central coast. A high fire danger over the southwest, high over the southern interior. Forecast for Thursday The trough will move east into the southeast east region with possible late thundery showers, dry over the remainder of the state. Strong SE winds about the northeast tropical coast and strong NW winds developing about the southeast coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the remainder of the state east of the trough. Dry and cooler in the west with moderate S to SW winds. A moderate to high fire danger over the southeast and central coast regions. A very high fire danger over the southern interior. Forecast for Friday A new high enters South Australia while a surface trough moves up the central coast after passing through the southeast coast early. Early patchy rain with possible thunder over the southeast then possible afternoon isolated showers. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing about the central coast district and the Wide Bay region. Dry over the remainder of the state, cooler in the south and west. Forecast for Saturday The high moves across New South while the trough on the central Queensland coast will moves north generating isolated afternoon showers over the southern tropics. Dry and cooler over the remainder of the state. A chilly morning in the southeast and southern interior with some early frost. Strong SE winds about northeast tropical coast and the southern Gulf in the morning. Forecast for Sunday The high reaches the east coast of New South Wales. The coastal trough reaches the northeast tropics with isolated showers. Fine over the remainder of the state, chilly over the southern interior in the morning with a little early frost. Northerly winds developing over western Queensland with rising temperatures. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Much the same weather for Monday, isolated showers developing about exposed points of the central coast. The next trough approaches the western boarder on Tuesday. This will create hot conditions over western Queensland with freshening NW winds and increasing fire danger. Isolated showers persisting about the northeast tropical coast. The early frost area now contracting into the Darling downs district. By Wednesday, the western trough or SW'ly wind change moves east into the Darling Downs and into the northwest of the state. Remaining dry over the interior. Cooler in the west after the change. Rather hot over the eastern interior in the afternoon with freshening NW winds. This will produce a very high fire rating for the southern interior. Early frost contracting to the Granite Belt. No change elsewhere in the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
