MELBOURNE - Aug 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure over western Victoria will weaken and slip southeastwards across central and eastern parts of the State this afternoon. A cold front will then follow cross Victoria on Wednesday afternoon and night with an associated deep low passing south of Tasmania on Thursday. A high pressure system will cross Bight waters late Thursday to reach northwestern Victoria on Friday night then slowly cross the north of the State on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers, becoming scattered in the southwest and about the eastern highlands later in the day with snow developing above 1300 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the southwest and along the coast during the afternoon and evening. Cool to mild and partly cloudy with fresh to strong north to northwest wind, locally gale force in Alpine regions then tending northwest to westerly from the west during the afternoon and easing a little.Thursday 30 AugustScattered showers with local hail and thunder on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast and falling as snow down to 900 metres. Isolated showers extending to northern inland areas. Cold with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending throughout, strengthening along the coast.Friday 31 AugustScattered showers in southern and mountain areas and isolated showers, reaching most northern parts although dry in the far northwest. Local hail at first in the east. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, easing from the west.Saturday 1 SeptemberMorning frosts in the north and west. Isolated showers in the south, clearing during the afternoon. A mostly sunny day in the north but patchy cloud in the south.
