MELBOURNE - Aug 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system lies to the east of New South Wales. A trough of low pressure will approach the western border of Victoria late Tuesday, then weaken and slip southeastwards across central areas early Wednesday. A cold front will then cross Victoria on Wednesday afternoon and night with an associated deep low passing south of Tasmania on Thursday. A high pressure system will cross Bight waters late Thursday to reach western Victoria on Friday night. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers developing over the west in the afternoon , extending to central areas during the evening but otherwise dry and mostly cloudy. Morning fog and frost patches in the east. Mild northerly winds, fresh over southern and elevated areas.Wednesday 29 AugustIsolated showers, becoming scattered in the southwest and about the northeastern highlands with snow developing above 1600 metres. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the southwest and along the coast during the afternoon and evening. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy with fresh to locally strong north to northwest wind, tending westerly from the west during the afternoon.Thursday 30 AugustScattered showers with local hail and thunder on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast and falling as snow down to 900 metres. Isolated showers extending northern inland areas. Cold with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending throughout, strengthening along the coast.Friday 31 AugustScattered showers in the east and the southwest and isolated showers in most remaining areas. Local hail and thunder at first in the east. Early frosts in the Mallee.
