MELBOURNE - Aug 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for Southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough lies over far eastern Queensland. A high [1025hPa] over New South Wales extends a ridge across southern and western Queensland. The high is expected to move eastwards during today and across the Tasman Sea on Tuesday. An upper level trough is moving over eastern Queensland and expected to pass offshore tonight. Forecast for the rest of Monday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts. Isolated showers over the far eastern tropics. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Early frost patches about the southern and southeast interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times along the east coast and about the Gulf Country. Forecast for Tuesday The high will continue to move eastwards into the Tasman Sea and will extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast. Isolated showers will occur about the east coast and adjacent inland areas. Early frost patches are possible about the southeast interior, mainly about the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with warm to hot daytime temperatures developing across western districts. Forecast for Wednesday The high will be situated over New Zealand and will continue to extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast. A trough will move eastwards across central Australia and enter western Queensland in the evening. Isolated showers will continue along exposed parts of the east coast. Early frost patches are possible about the Granite Belt. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state. Hot and gusty winds ahead of the trough will lead to an increasing fire danger over the southwest of the state. Forecast for Thursday The trough will continue to move eastwards across southern Queensland and approach central and southeast districts in the evening. Another high will begin to move eastwards across southern Australia and extend a ridge across western Queensland in the wake of the trough. Isolated showers will occur along exposed parts of the east coast. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will occur about the southern and southeast interior in the unstable and warm N'ly winds ahead of the trough. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state, with hot daytime temperatures across western and southeast districts. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The trough will move eastwards across central and southeast Queensland on Friday and into the Coral Sea on Saturday. The second high will move across southeastern Australia on Friday and enter the Tasman Sea over the weekend. The high should begin to extend a ridge along the Queensland east coast by Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms are likely about central and southeast districts on Friday, with coastal showers expected on Saturday due to a fresh S'ly change. Isolated showers should continue along the tropical east coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur over the remainder of the state.
