MELBOURNE - Aug 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system will drift over southern New South Wales today, reaching the Tasman Sea tonight. A trough will approach the western border late Tuesday, then weaken and slip southeastwards across central areas early Wednesday. A cold front will enter western districts later Wednesday, followed by a stronger cold front on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayCold at first with early morning frost and fog patches. A mild and mainly sunny day to follow although patchy high cloud gradually extending from the west. Light to moderate north to northwest winds, freshening in the west during the afternoon and local seabreezes about the Gippsland coast.Tuesday 28 AugustEarly morning fog and frost patches in the east. Cloud increasing with isolated showers developing over the west in the morning, extending to central areas during the evening and becoming more widespread over the southwest. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh northerly winds.Wednesday 29 AugustIsolated showers contracting eastwards through central and eastern districts during the morning, then scattered showers developing from the west with a change during the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1600 metres. Mild in the north and east with moderate to fresh north to northwest winds, tending cooler west to southwesterly from the west during the afternoon and strengthening along the coast.Thursday 30 AugustScattered showers with local hail and thunder on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the coast and falling as snow down to 900 metres. Isolated showers extending northern inland areas.
